KUCHING, Sept 21: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has emphasised the importance of revitalising public spaces to enhance community engagement and boost local tourism.

One of the primary projects is the revival of the Kenyalang Park’s Traffic Garden, which is set to be fully restored by early next year.

“We aim to bring back this cherished space as a hub for families and children, enriching the community experience,” he said during his weekly ShallWeeTalk live today.

The mayor also shared plans to introduce a more colourful and lively atmosphere in public parks by incorporating multi-coloured seating areas.

“We want to brighten up the environment, making these spaces more attractive and inviting for both locals and visitors,” he mentioned.

He further acknowledged the crucial role that community involvement plays in the success of these initiatives.

Wee called on residents to support the council’s efforts, emphasising that the goal is to create spaces that reflect the diversity and vibrancy of Kuching’s people.

“The revitalisation of public spaces not only fosters a sense of pride among residents but also positions Kuching as a dynamic city for tourists and potential investors,” he said, urging continued cooperation between the local government and the community.

On another note, the mayor urged citizens to remain vigilant about health matters, especially concerning rabies prevention, following successful vaccination campaigns.
