KUCHING, April 7: Repair works will be carried out on a leaking 800mm ductile iron pipe at Jalan Premat here starting 10am tomorrow (Apr 8), says the Kuching Water Board (KWB).

In a press release, the KWB said that a site assessment was carried out today with the appointed contractor to determine the most effective repair method while minimising disruption to water supply services.

“During the inspection, it was discovered that a concrete block had been installed above the pipe as a protective structure.

“In response to this, KWB has scheduled the isolation of the affected main pipe to begin preliminary works and proceed with excavation,” said the board.

As a result of the isolation, consumers in Petra Jaya and from Demak Laut to Bako may experience low water pressure.

The board said the leak is located within the road median, and the repair process will involve the use of heavy machinery.

“KWB urges all motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution and follow posted traffic advisories when passing through the affected area.

“We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation as we carry out these critical repair works to maintain service reliability.” — DayakDaily
