Kuching still reports triple-digit cases as Sarawak’s total cases drop below 500

KUCHING, June 26: Kuching registered triple-digit Covid-19 cases again today while Sarawak’s daily cases have dropped significantly to 491.

This is good progress in the State’s battle against Covid-19 as the last time it recorded daily cases below 500-mark was on June 9 with 419 cases.


On the breakdown of the total cases, Kuching reported 106, followed by Sibu (79), Bintulu (50), Miri (47), Subis (34), Sarikei (27), Betong (22), Tatau (19), Kapit (17), Song (12), Kanowit (11), Telang Usan (9), Bau (9), Bukit Mabong (8), Sri Aman (8), Lubok Antu (6), Selangau (5), Serian (5), Tebedu (5), Saratok (3), Pusa (2), Dalat (2), Matu (1), Limbang (1), Meradong (1), Pakan (1) and Mukah (1).

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said 52 out of the 491 cases were symptomatic while as many as 408 cases comprised of individuals who had been instructed to undergo quarantine at designated places.

In short, 312 cases were screened after having contact to positive cases, 93 individuals linked to active clusters, 54 from other screenings in health facilities, 29 detected from screening of symptomatic individuals, two individuals returning from Indonesia and one individual returning from other state.

The State also recorded five new fatalities involving individuals, aged between 57 and 85, bringing the State’s death toll to 401.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported 421 patients had recovered and discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 52,218 or 82.48 per cent.

There are 10,545 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the State.

There were 491 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases reported and none awaiting test results. — DayakDaily
