KUCHING, Dec 28: Several roads in Kuching will be temporarily closed in conjunction with the New Year 2026 Countdown celebrations to be held at the Kuching Waterfront this Wednesday (Dec 31).
According to Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the road closures will take effect from 4pm on December 31, 2025, until 2am on January 1, 2026, to facilitate the programme and ensure smooth traffic flow.
“The roads affected are Jalan Main Bazaar and Lebuh Wayang, Jalan Market and Jalan Gambier, Lebuh Java and Jalan Gambier, Jalan Lebuh Java, Jalan Wawasan and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Susur Wisma Pelita, Susur and traffic lights at St Mary, as well as Jalan Main Bazaar and Lebuh Temple,” he said in a recent statement.
Alexson advised members of the public attending the celebration to refrain from parking vehicles along road shoulders and to plan their journeys by using alternative routes to reduce traffic congestion.
