Kuching records 59 cases in Sarawak today, 323 new cases and 7 deaths statewide

KUCHING, May 19: Kuching registered the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the State today with 59 cases, while Sarawak as a whole recorded 323 new cases.

There were also seven deaths reported; a new daily record involving fatalities due to Covid-19 in Sarawak.


According to reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kuching reported the most number of Covid-19 cases followed by major divisions such as Miri (45), Sibu (43) and Bintulu (43).

SDMC said the four major divisions contributed 59 per cent or 190 cases out of the 323 cases reported in the State.

Other districts which reported new cases include Selangau with 28 cases, Samarahan (25), Kapit (16), Sarikei (13), Serian (11), Mukah (8), Julau (6), Sri Aman (5), Subis (4), Meradong (4), Kanowit (3), Pusa (2), Tanjung Manis (2), Song (2), Tatau (1), Lundu (1), Beluru (1) and Asajaya (1).

The extra 323 cases reported has raised the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 39,651.

There were 491 Covid-19 patients who recovered bringing the cumulative number of recoveries due to Covid-19 in Sarawak to 32,826 people or 82.79 per cent of the total confirmed cases.

A total of 6,499 Covid-19 patients are still being treated in the State.

There were 327 new cases of Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) and five PUI cases are waiting for the results of their Covid-19 swab test. — DayakDaily
