Kuching records 510 Covid-19 cases, accounts for over half of total 963 in Sarawak today

KUCHING, Aug 15: Kuching, with 510 Covid-19 cases, has accounted for over half of the total of 963 cases throughout Sarawak today.

According to reports by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), following behind Kuching and also registering three-digit figures were Samarahan with 119 cases and Serian with 103.

Other districts that saw double-digit case numbers were Betong (44), Bau (33), Sibu (25), Sri Aman (22), Bintulu (19), Simunjan (18), Mukah (12), Tebedu (12) and Asajaya (10).

The remaining districts with new infections were Kabong (6), Tatau (6), Belaga (4), Meradong (4), Miri (3), Kanowit (3), Lundu (2), Kapit (2), Song (2), Selangau (1), Dalat (1), Sebauh (1) and Telang Usan (1).

With that, SDMC said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 87,006.

“Out of the 963 patients, 670 were detected following close contact screenings where 45 of them were symptomatic.

“Another 82 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where one of them showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, 73 cases were of symptomatic screenings, 135 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, one was an Import-B case from Sabah and another two were Import-A cases from Indonesia,” it said in a statement on Covid-19 update today.

Of the total, SDMC noted 839 cases or 87.12 per cent were from Category 1 whereby the patients do not develop any symptoms.

There were 122 patients with mild symptoms from Category 2, one with lung infection while requiring oxygen in Category 4 and one Category 5 patient who needs the support of a ventilator.

On Covid-19 fatality, four new cases were recorded today, raising the Covid-19 death toll to 486.

The four victims were of ages between 71 to 83 years old, with two in Kuching and one each in Simunjan and Serian. All of them had medical histories of comorbidities.

Meanwhile, 709 patients were discharged from hospitals across Sarawak, so there remain 8,293 active cases in isolation or treatment. — DayakDaily
