KUCHING, Oct 12: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has revealed that Kuching is progressing towards becoming a more child-friendly city, in line with global standards set by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

“These children are not the same as those from decades ago. They are exposed to so much information and have wisdom and knowledge that sometimes surpass our own.

“Providing them a platform to express their views is essential for their growth and the future of our city,” he said during his weekly ShallWeeTalk live today.

The mayor further elaborated on the importance of giving children a voice in civic matters, noting that their perspectives can help shape policies that affect their daily lives.

The initiative encourages young citizens to become actively involved in local governance and decision-making processes, setting a strong foundation for future leadership.

Kuching’s journey toward becoming a more child-friendly city is aligned with global standards, ensuring that children’s needs are prioritised in urban planning, public services, and community programmes.

With the programme already gaining momentum, Wee stressed that the council will continue to support initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the younger generation, ensuring a safer, more inclusive city for all. — DayakDaily
