Kuching police warn of traffic disruptions as Seng-Ong Deity procession draws 10,000, 220 vehicles

KUCHING, April 8: Kuching police have urged the public not to obstruct traffic and to consider alternative routes as the Seng-Ong Deity Birthday procession tomorrow (April 9) is expected to draw about 10,000 participants and involve 220 vehicles.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the procession will take place from 4.30pm until 11pm, covering several major roads in the city centre.

The route begins at Jalan Ban Hock and passes through Jalan Central Timur, Jalan Padungan, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Borneo, Jalan Bukit Mata, Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Gambier, Lebuh Java, Jalan Market, Jalan Kho Hun Yeang, Jalan Pearl, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, before ending at Jalan Carpenter.

He said traffic diversions and temporary congestion are expected along the affected routes throughout the duration of the event.

“In order to ensure the smooth running of the programme and traffic flow, members of the public are advised to remain cautious and refrain from parking along road shoulders,” he said in a statement today.

He also encouraged road users to plan their journeys ahead of time and to use alternative routes to minimise delays.
