Kuching police nab machete-wielding suspect in Tabuan Lot mosque incident

KUCHING, Nov 24: Police have confirmed the arrest of a man for running amok with a machete and attacking another person outside a mosque in the Tabuan Lot area here on Nov 23.

According to a media release, Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said that the suspect was said to have acted aggressively by swinging the machete toward members of the public at the site of the incident.

Both the suspect and victim appeared to have been injured during the incident.

“The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years, as well as a fine or whipping, upon conviction,” he said.

Members of the public have been advised to refrain from acting aggressively in ways that could endanger themselves or the community.

The public is also urged to report to the police if they witness any suspicious or high-risk behaviour.
