KUCHING, September 14: Road users here who have committed minor traffic offences will be pleased to know that a “50 per cent discount’ awaits them if they settle their summonses today or tomorrow (Sept 15).

Organised by the Malaysia General Insurance Association (PIAM) together with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the police, everyone is entitled to the 50 per cent reduction as long as they settle at specific locations within Kuching District.

The locations are as follows: at the traffic booths set up by the police at Plaza Merdeka (Friday and Saturday), Kuching District Police Headquarters traffic counter (Friday only) and at UTC Kuching (Friday only).

The booths will be opened from 10am to 4pm.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the special discount was offered in conjunction with the Road Safety Awareness campaign in Kuching District.

However, only certain traffic offence summons are entitled for the discounts. The ones that are not are (1) Non Compound (NC) summons, (2) summons with court case, (3) those with arrest warrants, (4) traffic accidents, (5) offences committed during Ops Selamat 2018, (6) offences involving usage of communications devices while driving, (7) running the red light, (8) overtaking over a double line, (9) driving on the emergency lane and (10) offences related to heavy commercial vehicles with maximum compounds.

“For discount offers to be held in other districts later, it would be up to Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department,” he said when contacted. — DayakDaily
