KUCHING, Sept 22: A man has been sentenced to either pay a RM3,000 fine or serve five months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today after he pleaded guilty to threatening his cousin’s ex-husband using a samurai sword.
Mohd Firdaus Abdul Aman, 30, admitted to the charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction. Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali presided over the case.
According to the charge, the incident occurred on September 16, 2023, at approximately 1.20pm in front of the victim’s ex-wife’s residence in Kampung Samariang Bentara, Petra Jaya.
According to the brief facts of the case, the victim went to his ex-wife’s house after being called for a discussion regarding their relationship. Suddenly, the accused approached him, brandishing a samurai sword at the victim’s face, and said to him, “Mun aku nangga ko agik datang sitok, ku tetak kau.” (If I see you here again, I will shoot you).
The incident was reportedly triggered by the accused’s unfounded suspicion that the complainant was causing trouble for his family.
The complainant’s friend and members of the ex-wife’s family witnessed the episode. Family members attempted to calm the accused and prevent him from acting aggressively toward the complainant.
Concerned for his safety, the complainant filed a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused two days later, on September 18, 2023, at around 5.30pm.
The accused did not have legal representation during the proceedings. The prosecution was handled by Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad. — DayakDaily
