The incident took place at their home in Batu Kawa around 1.30am on September 17, when Fitri suddenly flew into a rage and struck his 66-year-old mother in the face.

The attack caused swelling to her left hand, a split lip, and damage to her teeth.

Investigations revealed that the youngest of two siblings had been living with his mother and was often short-tempered. However, the victim usually ignored his outbursts until the assault escalated that night.

During the altercation, he also pulled her hair as she tried to escape. The mother managed to grab her phone from beside the bed and push him towards the kitchen door before fleeing through the front entrance to call the police.

Fitri, who previously underwent rehabilitation with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), was unrepresented in court. Deputy Public Prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng led the prosecution. — DayakDaily
