Kuching Grab driver shot by passenger

KUCHING, May 30: A Grab driver was shot by a passenger turned robber at Jalan Matang here today.

The incident took place not far from Jantayu Strawberry Farm in the Matang area.

An ambulance crew and police personnel were rushed to the crime scene to treat and interview the victim.


State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Denis Leong confirmed the case.

The victim, who is in his 40s, was said to have picked up a passenger around 2.30pm from Kuching Sentral to be sent to the strawberry farm.

The passenger, who is thought to be a foreigner, asked the victim to pull over by the roadside next to the Matang highway.

As the victim was stopping the car, the passenger hit the victim on the head with a hammer and shot the victim with a weapon, believed to be an airgun.

Seen is an injury sustained by the driver.

The victim managed to escape into the nearby forest. He suffered injuries to his head and chest and was later brought by the authorities to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.

Efforts to trace the suspect are underway at the scene.

Earlier this week on May 27, two men were arrested in Sabah for robbing and murdering a Grab driver. The driver, Mohd Hanafiee Jaffar, 27, was earlier reported missing on May 24. His body was dumped in Tuaran but found by police before the arrests. — DayakDaily
