KUCHING, Aug 21: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng is contemplating adding a sound system and play ‘hot music’ at Kuching Food Festival (KFF) for vendors and patrons to enjoy and unwind to next year.
During a livestream on the Mayor’s official Facebook Page last night (Aug 20), Wee was chatting with popular Dutch-born content creator Nick Jansen, also known as ‘globalgibbon’, on the final day of KFF 2023. Wee also asked Jansen to provide feedback on anything that could be improved for the festival.
“I think you could probably add a few more tables at the festival, but beyond that, it’s perfect,” Jansen said, noting that he had visited KFF six times this year.
When mentioning the Kuching Creative City booths, the content creator pointed out that the only minor issue is that they are located at the very end, where people may miss the opportunity to visit them.
“Yes, for the direction-wise, we’ll see how to change that. The Kuching Creative City booths are newly created this year. They are mostly made up of young chefs, which is why we are creating a platform for them to showcase what they can create,” Wee explained.
“I think we should have some sound system where ‘hot music’ can be played during the last night of the festival. After 24 days of trading here I’m sure they (vendors) would like to relax.”
Jansen proposed Wee consider incorporating buskers into the festival events, providing vendors and patrons with the opportunity to dance to their tunes.
“I agree that the vendors should have some sort of ‘after-party’ on the last night when they finish.
“Buskers, I believe, are a good idea; one or two people performing in various locations around the festival grounds,” he noted.
KFF 2023 hit the 1-million visitors mark as its curtains fell last night (Aug 20).
This was revealed by Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, in a Facebook post last night.
“Thanks (to) everyone’s support; we crossed the 1 million visitors (target), making it (the) most successful event in Sarawak again! Truly sharing the best of Sarawak.
“Thank you for the creativity and entrepreneurship for each of the 330 stalls’ hardwork, passion for the contractors, the staffs, the councillors and Mayor of MBKS for another successful Kuching Festival,” he wrote. — DayakDaily
