KUCHING, Aug 13: The Kuching Festival’s Martial Arts Display programme scheduled for tomorrow (Aug 14) has been cancelled due to unhealthy air quality caused by the ongoing haze in Kuching.
In a statement today, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) explained that the Air Pollutant Index (API) continued to record unhealthy levels, prompting the council to cancel the outdoor event as a precaution.
MBKS said the Martial Arts Display involves outdoor physical activities and performances, and it would not be advisable to proceed under the prevailing air quality conditions.
“The health and safety of the participants, performers, officials and members of the public remain our priority,” it said.
The council apologised for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation and sought the understanding of participating martial arts associations, performers and members of the public.
MBKS also expressed its appreciation to Natural Avenue, the main sponsor of the Kuching Festival Martial Arts Display 2026, for its generous sponsorship and support.
“Although the event is unable to proceed due to circumstances beyond our control, we greatly value their support and commitment to the Kuching Festival,” it said.
Members of the public were also advised to take necessary precautions during the current haze, particularly by reducing prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities while the API remains at unhealthy levels. — DayakDaily
