Kuching district with most new Covid-19 cases as Sarawak’s tally hits 507

KUCHING, June 22: Kuching saw the highest number of cases by district as Sarawak registered 507 new Covid-19 cases today.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said 313 cases or 61.73 per cent were detected in Kuching, Sibu, Kapit, Sebauh and Song.


Of the new cases reported, Kuching recorded 91, followed by Sibu (85), Kapit (65), Sebauh (42), Song (30), Subis (27), Bintulu (26), Mukah (15), Miri (15), Sri Aman (14), Samarahan (14), Telang Usan (13), Simunjan (12), Kanowit (11), Saratok (6), Tatau (6), Tanjung Manis (5), Bukit Mabong (5), Bau (5), Pakan (5), Lundu (3), Pusa (2), Sarikei (2), Betong (2), Matu (1), Serian (1), Meradong (1), Dalat (1), Selangau (1) and Lubok Antu (1).

SDMC revealed that 51 out of the 507 new cases were symptomatic, while 437 cases comprised individuals who had been instructed to undergo quarantine at designated places.

In short, 353 cases were detected following contact with positive cases, 84 cases were linked to active clusters, 49 cases detected via other screenings in health facilities and 21 cases detected from screening of symptomatic individuals.

The State also recorded seven new fatalities involving individuals aged between 59 to 87, bringing the State’s death toll to 389.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported 583 patients who had recovered and were discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 50,145 or 82.22 per cent of all cases reported.

There are 10,318 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the State.

There were 507 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases reported today with one awaiting test results. — DayakDaily
