KUCHING, May 19: Reroofing works on the Kuching Civic Centre, worth RM4.9 million, are scheduled for completion by this month.
Additionally, the first phase of reroofing works for the Sibu Civic Centre, costing RM5 million under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2026 and is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2027.
In his ministerial winding-up speech, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah added that his ministry is proposing five civic centre refurbishment projects by the fourth quarter of 2026.
“This is to improve safety elements, functionality, and its readiness to host multilevel events.
“These include the remaining upgrading works for ones in Kuching and Sibu, while three in Samarahan, Kapit, and Limbang will undergo total refurbishment works,” he said at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today. — DayakDaily
