Kuching and Miri see triple-digit gains as Sarawak’s daily total climbs to 754; only 18 in critical stage

KUCHING, Oct 24: Kuching and Miri recorded triple-digit increases in new Covid-19 cases as Sarawak’s daily total climbed to 754 cases today, an increase from 587 cases reported yesterday.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said however, of the total cases today, only 18 cases are classified as critical.


Of this number, four patients who developed pneumonia but are able to breathe on their own are in Category 3, nine patients in Category 4 need oxygen supply, while five Category 5 patients need a ventilator to breathe.

Meanwhile, the remaining 736 new cases are in Category 1 (no symptoms) and Category 2 (mild symptoms).

SDMC also disclosed that by district, Kuching took the lead in terms of number with 213 cases, followed by Miri (124), Sibu (78), Bintulu (59), Lawas (37), Limbang (28), Betong (22), Sri Aman (21), Mukah (20), Samarahan (16), Serian (16), Pusa (15), Sarikei (11), Kanowit (11), Bau (9), Simunjan (8), Meradong (6), Subis (6), Bukit Mabong (6), Marudi (5), Daro (5), Pakan (5), Dalat (5), Kapit (4), Kabong (3), Lundu (3), Song (3), Lubok Antu (3), Saratok (2), Asajaya (2), Julau (2), Telang Usan (2), Matu (1), Belaga (1), Beluru (1) and Sebauh (1).

Four other districts comprising Tanjung Manis, Tebedu, Selangau and Tatau did not record any new cases today.

Nine new Covid-19 fatalities were also reported, bringing the death toll in Sarawak to 1,203. — DayakDaily
