Kuala Baram flood evacuees to return home

MIRI, Jan 17: Arrangements are being made for the flood victims at the flood relief centre located at the Kampung Kuala Batu Satu community hall, Kuala Baram, to return home today as flood waters have subsided, disclosed Minister for Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

Lee who is also the minister-in-charge of the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee and Senadin assemblyman added, the evacuees comprising three adults and four children were brought by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to the temporary relief centre on the night of January 12 around 10.30pm.


Lee visited the evacuees at the relief centre earlier today.

The evacuees are a family residing by the seaside and were badly affected by the recent king tide phenomenon and heavy rainfall.

Their house was flooded by seawater following heavy rain on January 12.

During the visit, Lee was accompanied by Acting Miri Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf, Bomba officers, Civil Defence Force personnel and Welfare Department personnel. — DayakDaily
