“Some of them receive RM8,000, and some even get RM10,000. For those whose houses were not burned down but were damaged, they also receive the aid based on the assessment from Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKM),” she told reporters when met after the handing over of the cheque ceremony.

Apart from that, Fatimah disclosed, the victims, especially those working and living in the city, also receive rental assistance from the government.

She said victims could get assistance, and JKM will help them with the application process through the Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government.

“Other than that, they can also request other assistance to build new homes at the same location.

“Under JKM, we provide RM5,000 assistance for them to conduct the clearing works and RM70,000 from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) per house unit.
