KUCHING, Sept 10: The Registration of Businesses Act 1956 by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) should also be implemented in Sarawak and Sabah so that business entities in both States can benefit from it, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He added that his Ministry is always looking into the improvements made in the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 to ensure its benefits reach Sarawak and Sabah business entities.
āFor example, during the Covid-19 pandemic, when the government provides assistance through the SSM database, those registered under SSM will automatically get the benefits.
āApart from that, it is also to protect the business of those who have registered,ā he said at a press conference after officiating at the Young Entrepreneurship Program 2022 (PUM22) held at Polytechnic Kuching in Matang today.
Nanta pointed out that the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 does not apply in Sarawak and Sabah because both States have their own business ordinance.
āIt does not apply, does not mean it is not good. Sarawak and Sabah have certain ordinances that already existed before the formation of Malaysia, and it remains in use until today,ā he added.
During the programme earlier, SSM also distributed its corporate zakat waqf, including contributions under its corporate social responsibility (CSR), to 50 students from Polytechnic Kuching, Matang Vocational College, Kuching Vocational College, Mas Gading Community College, and Giatmara Satok Center worth RM25,000.
SSM also donated RM10,000 to the Matang Polytechnic Entrepreneurship Club. ā DayakDaily
