KUCHING, Aug 30: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has highlighted the critical need for schools to support the Sarawak government’s efforts to enhance education standards, particularly in response to the growing demand for high-skilled employment in the State.

Yap stated that this demand is expected to increase significantly over the next five to ten years as Sarawak continues its development trajectory.

He also underscored the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in driving the State’s expanding economy.

He further praised the initiative to provide free university education in STEM courses at Sarawak-owned institutions, calling it a crucial step towards developing human capital capable of boosting worker efficiency and productivity, thereby helping Sarawak’s economy move up the value chain.

“Sarawak can only achieve great things with unity of purpose, sheer determination, and self-confidence of all Sarawakians.

“Together, we are building a future that is not only prosperous but also responsible and sustainable,” said Yap in a press release.

On another note, the Kota Sentosa assemblyman paid a visit to SJK (C) Sam Hap Hin in Batu Tujuh today to present a RM157,480 grant from the Sarawak government’s Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).

The grant, secured through Yap’s efforts, is intended to assist the school in the repair and upgrading of its building, toilets, and library.

He pledged to continue advocating for additional government grants to ensure that school facilities and equipment are up to standard, empowering students to be well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

This, he noted, aligns with the Sarawak government’s aspiration for a thriving society driven by data and innovation, where every Sarawakian, regardless of race or religion, can share in the State’s economic prosperity. — DayakDaily
