Kota Sentosa rep urges politicians to assist public through official channels rather than seek cheap publicity

KUCHING, Feb 23: Focus on assisting the public solve issues by communicating directly, officially, and properly with relevant authorities rather than through social media for cheap self-publicity, says Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.

According to Yap, certain politicians seem to have the habit of highlighting problems facing the community, and attacking and blaming the authorities through social media recently.

“I hope that such politicians will change their mindset,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Yap said, he together with community leaders and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa branch members will continue to serve as the eyes and ears of the communities living in Kota Sentosa to ensure problems are always communicated to the relevant authorities for immediate rectification.

He said during a recent “turun padang” visit to BDC, residents had complained about a burst main water pipe at Jalan Canna/Jalan Stutong causing low water pressure or no water supply to areas at Jalan Stutong, Jalan BDC and surrounding areas which had caused great inconvenience to them.

“Following the request for assistance, the complaint was immediately communicated to Kuching Water Board (KWB) and KWB urgently rectified the burst main water pipe problem.

“A water tanker was also mobilised by KWB to the areas affected to ease the inconveniences facing residents,” he said.

Yap reassured the public that he will continue to serve as the eyes and ears of community and be part of the solution (‘people over politics’) rather than only highlighting issues through the media for publicity.

He said his N12 Kota Sentosa Service Centre is always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems in his constituency or who come across problems of public interest but does not know how to deal with it.
