KUCHING, Jan 9: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap is urging relevant authorities to conduct a study and develop a comprehensive drainage system for Borneo Garden at Jalan Lapangan Terbang and its surrounding areas.

According to a press statement issued by Yap today, residents of Lorong 4, Borneo Garden, approached and informed him that a section of the monsoon drains and footpath was in poor condition.

Yap applied for funding under the Sarawak government’s Rural Transformation Project (RTP) to repair the concrete drains and footpath at Lorong 4, Borneo Garden. The same has been approved for implementation by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

The approved project costs RM234,852.70 and includes the construction of a 26-metre crossover box culvert, a 65-metre open drain, and a 103-metre concrete footpath.

Furthermore, MBKS has informed Yap that the contractor to carry out the approved project will be appointed by cabut undi (draw) before the end of Feb 2023.

The Kota Sentosa assemblyman hopes that the discharge rate will be accelerated by repairing and widening the monsoon drain, reducing and mitigating the flash flood problem at Borneo Garden.

“It is hoped that with proper planning, the authorities concerned can apply for more federal government funding.

“This is because drainage and irrigation are enumerated as specific items in the concurrent list. This means that both the federal and State governments are jointly responsible,” Yap noted in the press statement.

Yap, for his part, will continue to seek additional Sarawak government funds to address the numerous flash flood problems in his constituency and hopes that the current Stampin MP, Chong Chieng Jen, will also assist in seeking federal government funding.

Yap’s service centre is always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone experiencing problems in his constituency or who comes across issues of public interest but is unsure how to handle them.

Anyone requiring assistance can call his service centre’s mobile number at 082-265513 or 011-31893319 or go directly to his service centre at E-2-25, 2nd Floor, Gala Street Mall, Gala City, Jalan Tun Jugah, Kempas Heights, 93350 Kuching. — DayakDaily
