KUCHING, July 20: The Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM1.1 million to upgrade the drainage system and culvert crossing at the Mile 7 Old Bazaar.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap in a statement today the project will be implemented by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).
“The upgrading works of the drainage system will be conducted using the open tender method to select the best contractor to complete the project,” he said.
Previously, Yap was approached by the business community of the bazaar’s commercial area to assist in the long overdue upgrades of the drainage system due to its unsatisfactory condition.
“The business community at the bazaar were frustrated due to frequent flash flooding after a storm, especially during the rainy season which had caused them great inconvenience and economic loss as a result of the flash floods.”
Yap added that he was aware of the numerous neglected infrastructure problems in N12 Kota Sentosa constituency that needs to be resolved and is committed to improving the standard of living and quality of life of the communities living in the constituency.
“I will not resort to rhetoric but be part of the solution and will persistently and systematically secure the necessary state funding for the upgrading of all neglected infrastructure facilities in the constituency,” he added. — DayakDaily
