KUCHING, June 12: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has handed over a grant worth RM8,000 to Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society (CHKMUS) Sarawak to provide free Bahasa Melayu (BM) tuition classes to 20 Form 5 students from B40 families to prepare them for the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) BM examination.
According to a press release, during the handing over of the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant to CHKMUS’s chairman, Chai Min Kuet, Yap thanked the Society for taking the initiative to conduct the BM tuition class for students from B40 families as SPM candidates must pass BM to qualify for the certificate in Malaysia.
“Furthermore, it is the basic requirement for those applying for government jobs in Malaysia to pass SPM BM before they can be offered permanent posts,” the press release stated.
Yap also took the opportunity to interact with the students and encouraged them to study hard, as a good education is the step towards a prosperous life and giving back to family and society.
“The students were reminded that a good education helps to determine the quality of one’s life by improving one’s knowledge, skills, and personality.
“It also helps get good employment and increases the growth and development of the country,” it said. — DayakDaily
