KUCHING, Apr 12: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin hopes that the midterm review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) will not lose sight of its focus and prioritise the needs of all Malaysians regardless of social status, race, or religion.

According to a statement by Yap, he emphasised the importance of more needs-based policies for the advancement of the nation as a whole.

“This is because needs-based policies will be more effective in boosting economic growth and equitable distribution of our nation’s wealth,” he said.

He also expressed hope that the Federal unity government would consider all stakeholders fairly and equally during the midterm review of the 12MP, as long as they are in the B40 households, and that it would be based on market friendly and market based criteria, taking into account their needs and merits.

“The attention during the midterm review should be on capacity building while simultaneously finding ways to integrate more need-based assistance to achieve the holistic targets and objectives under 12MP,” he added.

During the midterm review of 12MP, Yap also wished that the current Federal unity government would adopt the fundamental principle of just and fair accommodation, consultation, and compromise amongst all stakeholders (races) as the basis for all policy objectives and timelines.

On a separate note, the Kota Sentosa assemblyman recently accompanied Penghulu Jakup Buan and Sarawak Energy Berhad technicians to Kampung Stampin Baru and Kampung Lubok Buan to determine the locations for the installation of street lighting.

The costs of installing street lights in Kampung Stampin Baru and Kampung Lubok Buan are part of Yap’s approved rural transformation project (RTP) street lights funding of RM1 million for the Kota Sentosa constituency, as per the statement.

Yap also stated that he and community leaders from his constituency will continue to closely monitor the street lighting project’s installation to ensure that unnecessary delays are kept to a minimum.

“I hope that the installation of street lights throughout Kota Sentosa will increase visibility, promote road safety for drivers and pedestrians, and discourage theft in my constituency,” he added.

11 street lights have been identified and marked for installation in Kampung Lubok Buan, eight in Kampung Stampin Baru, 30 in Kampung temedak, 35 in Kampung Sungai Tapang, and five in Kampung Stutong Iban. — DayakDaily
