KUCHING, July 13: The first phase for critical works involving the RM350 million Stampin Resettlement Area Flood Mitigation project will start in 2024, says Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
Yap in a statement today said the project, which include roads, drains and bund works will begin after the completion of study and planning approval by all relevant government agencies and department.
“I would like to thank Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Sarawak government for the huge allocation to resolve the longstanding flood problem in Stampin Resettlement area despite the fact that flood mitigation is under the concurrent list of the Federal Constitution,” he said.
Meanwhile, Yap said, he was briefed regarding the project in a meeting conducted by Deputy Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel and other relevant government agencies and department earlier today.
He also said during the meeting Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) also requested for one year period to carry out and complete a detailed feasibility including comprehensive study and planning for scope of works (inclusive of a utility corridor) for the implementation in phases of the project.
As such, Yap assured that he is committed and will continue to try his best to resolve all the outstanding issues in N12 Kota Sentosa.
“Some of the issues have been outstanding for more than 10 years and I appeal for the public’s patience,” he added. — DayakDaily
