KUCHING, Dec 28: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin said development should be measured by tangible improvements in people’s daily lives, stressing that unity and inclusive policies are key to Sarawak’s long-term progress.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Yap said government policies only hold value when they translate into real benefits at the grassroots level.

“Development should not be judged by announcements alone, but by whether people genuinely feel positive change in their lives,” he said when officiating a Christmas and New Year 2026 celebration at Kampung Stampin Baru recently.

He said Sarawak’s social stability, rooted in mutual respect, harmony, and tolerance among its diverse communities, has enabled consistent and sustainable development across the State.

Yap noted that the Sarawak government has prioritised inclusive, people-centric development through initiatives aimed at strengthening education access, job opportunities, and community-level infrastructure.

Among the initiatives highlighted were the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FETS) starting in 2026, strategic investments in the digital economy and green energy sectors to create quality employment, as well as continued welfare assistance to support vulnerable groups.

“These are practical measures designed to improve daily life and ensure that progress reaches every community, regardless of background,” he added.

As the elected representative for Kota Sentosa, Yap reaffirmed his commitment to consistently raise residents’ concerns to ensure the effective implementation of development policies on the ground.

He also called on residents to continue nurturing unity and social harmony, describing them as essential foundations for Sarawak’s continued growth and stability. — DayakDaily
