Kota Sentosa cemetery murder: 50yo man remanded until Jan 12

KUCHING, Jan 5: A 50-year-old man has been remanded for seven days by the Magistrates’ Court here to assist police in their investigation into the killing of an elderly cemetery worker and the attempted murder of the victim’s son at a cemetery along Jalan Lumba Kuda, Kota Sentosa.

Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan allowed the remand application, which will take effect until Jan 12, following a request by the investigating officer, ASP Sylvarius Gopog.

The remand is to facilitate investigations under Sections 302 and 307 of the Penal Code, which pertain to murder and attempted murder, respectively. The suspect was not represented by counsel during the proceedings.

According to earlier media reports, the incident came to light on Saturday (Jan 3) when the body of a 67-year-old man was discovered at the cemetery.

The victim, who was believed to be working at the cemetery at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The deceased’s 34-year-old son was also injured during the incident. He reportedly suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.

His current medical status has not been disclosed by authorities.

Police investigations later led to the arrest of a 28-year-old woman on the same day of the incident. She was detained at a commercial area in Siburan.

At this stage, police have not released further details on the motive behind the attack or the relationship between the suspects and the victims. — DayakDaily
