KUCHING, Nov 17: Kota Samarahan is rapidly emerging as a key hub for education, healthcare, and modern development, earning praise from Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos, who described the district as “lucky” for its strategic growth fueled by major government and private sector projects.
“Where else in Sarawak can you find two major universities, three military camps, a state-of-the-art cancer centre, a new hospital, and countless other big projects all in one place?
“MPKS truly is a lucky municipal council,” he said when speaking at MPKS’s annual dinner at a hotel here last night (Nov 16).
Minos noted that with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) located in Samarahan, the area has earned its reputation as an educational hub.
The coming addition of the Unimas Teaching Hospital, alongside cancer treatment and anti-infectious disease centres, is positioning Samarahan as a burgeoning medical hub as well.
Additionally, Samarahan has addressed traffic congestion with newly installed traffic lights at roundabouts, while the State’s first Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system is underway.
Meanwhile, the private sector is also driving significant housing developments.
With so many projects in the pipeline, Minos urged council members and staff to fully support both government and private sector initiatives.
“Be people- and business-friendly. Do this for the good of MPKS and the government itself.
“From what I hear and know, Kota Samarahan will surely be a developed and advanced city by 2030,” he added. — DayakDaily
