KUCHING, Dec 29: Michael Kong, the special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen is urging the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to fix the soil erosion problem at Tabuan Desa as soon as possible.

Following a complaint today from a resident at Tabuan Desa, who only wanted to be known as Lo, regarding the soil erosion issue which he claimed had damaged the fencing of his house, Kong said DID should take prompt action to fix the problem and to avoid further loss and damage to people’s property.

He added the lack of any retaining wall or proper concrete drainage system has also led to serious soil erosion issues along the boundary of Lo’s house.

Kong said Lo had also raised the matter to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) in June 2020 but was referred to DID a few weeks later.

He added DID only sent some representatives to conduct a site inspection after eight months later but since then, no further action was taken.

“Despite having taken pictures of the said site, there has yet to be any action taken by DID.

“It has been 10 months already and the fence for the house has since been seriously affected.

“Even the foundation of Mr. Lo’s house is compromised as cracks can been seen on his house’s pillars,” he said in a statement today.

Kong added that he will be submitting an official letter to DID to seek an explanation and to follow-up on the matter.

He further said that it was “unreasonable and intolerable” for residents to go experience such issues. — DayakDaily
