Kitaro to ignite the stage at Rainforest World Music Festival 2024 which starts tomorrow (June 28)

KUCHING, June 27: Grammy and Golden Globe award winner Kitaro, renowned for his electronic-instrumental music, is set to headline the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2024, which kicks off tomorrow (June 28) at Sarawak Cultural Village.

Kitaro, who arrived in Kuching today, is scheduled to perform at 9.40pm tomorrow.

He will also host a workshop titled ‘Nature Inspiration’ earlier in the day.

The concert will commence with a miring ceremony at 6pm, followed by performances from Nisa Addina and Tribal Tribe, Colours of Sound Malaysia, Ensemble Melayu Nusantara, The Borneo Collective, Rhythms Rebels featuring Selonding Bali Aga, while Sarawakian musician Belle Sisoski will close the concert on the first day.

Festivalgoers can also participate in various programmes and workshops on the first day, including Kelabit call-and-response chants by Sarawakian Sape songstress Alena Murang; ethnic Sarawakian dance and live music; basic fun drumming by The Colours of Sound Malaysia as well as sape carving and spoken word poetry by Seni Kita by Haus Kuching.

The 27th edition of the festival, themed ‘Evolution’, features an exceptional lineup of 20 acts, including 68 international musicians from 14 countries across six continents, alongside 63 Malaysian artists.

This diverse mix promises a rich musical fusion, showcasing global musical traditions in Sarawak.

With the festival anticipating over 10,000 attendees daily for the next three days, police have advised the public not to park their cars along the road shoulders to avoid causing traffic obstructions and congestion.

The public is urged to adhere to instructions by enforcers and park their vehicles at designated car parks.

Additionally, protocols and security measures for the upcoming international festival have been tightened due to the expected presence of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah as well as foreign ambassadors.

Meanwhile, the shuttle bus service (different from van shuttle service) is free for all ticket holders with pickup points at Plaza Merdeka and Riverside Majestic Hotel to SCV.

For those without tickets, it is RM12 one way to take the shuttle bus.

There are also shuttle van loop service between Santubong Resort t-junction to SCV operating between 10am to 1am with tickets priced at RM8 per way for adults and RM4 per way for children. — DayakDaily
