SIBU, June 14: The brave actions of a kindergarten teacher in Tanjung Manis prevented any untoward incidents from happening to nine children aged 4 to 5 yesterday when she stopped a would-be assailant from entering her classroom.
Sarikei district police chief Supt Awang Arfian Awang Bujang said the 39-year-old teacher put herself in harms way to prevent a man from harming the children.
“In the 8.20am incident yesterday, a 17-year-old man who went berserk had tried to forcefully enter the classroom. The female teacher then stood firmly at the doorway to prevent the suspect from entering,” he said.
The suspect then broke a glass window and climbed into the classroom.
“As the suspect was trying to grab the children from the classroom, the teacher put up a struggle to stop him from doing so,” said Supt Awang Arfian.
In the process she sustained injuries to her hands, legs and body.
The kindergarten security guard heard the commotion and ran to the classroom to arrest the suspect.
He was later handed over to the Tanjung Manis police.
The suspect had also caused RM700 in property damage.
The matter had gone viral on social media and Supt Awang Arfian urged the public not to speculate on it.
The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief and Section 322 of the same Code for voluntarily causing hurt. — DayakDaily
