KUCHING, Dec 11: Sarawak boxer, Daeloniel ‘Kilat Boy’ Mcdelon Bong closed 2025 with a glorious achievement after winning the IBA Intercontinental Super Bantamweight title.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) report, Daeloniel secured the title with an impressive Total Knockout (TKO) win over India’s national champion, Kuldeep Tarkar. The fight stopped on the eighth round during the Warzone World Championship event on Dec 7.
“Since the beginning of the year we have been talking about IBA, and Alhamdulillah at the end of 2025 we have managed to win the title,” he said when met by reporters at the Kuching International Airport on Wednesday.
Buoyed by his latest success, Daeloniel is already setting his sights on even greater milestones in 2026. Among his ambitions are establishing his own boxing academy or gym and securing a world-class championship belt.
“We will also focus on the next bigger target, perhaps towards a world championship such as the World Championship or WBC Gold.
“Planning is being made towards that and during this break we will prepare the gym or academy,” he said, noting that the ‘Kilat Boy’ academy is expected to be announced early next year.
He also plans to return to the ring after the Hari Raya celebration in 2026, with his management expected to confirm his next fight date in due course.
“I myself will return to the original training camp, get back to basics, and focus on recovering my body because five fights in 2025 is quite a lot and we want to take care of my body for the long term,” he explained.
Before capturing the IBA Intercontinental belt, Daeloniel competed in four matches earlier this year, including the WBC Asia Continental title fight on Aug 3, which boosted his ranking. He also took part in the Twins Championship 103 in Sri Aman just three weeks before the IBA showdown.
According to BoxRex, Daeloniel is currently ranked 150th in the world, eighth in Asia and first in Malaysia in the Super Bantamweight category. His rankings are expected to be updated within a week following his latest triumph. – DayakDaily
