KUCHING, Sept 19: Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has in principle agreed to the third Covid-19 booster shot in Sarawak to be administered in three stages.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the proposal was put up by the committee through a virtual meeting with Khairy yesterday (Sept 18) and the latter has agreed with it.

The proposal to administer the third Covid-19 booster shot was a consensus between Khairy, SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and the Sarawak State Health Department (JKNS).

“We have presented our idea to YB Khairy. He will be discussing it with the Health Ministry’s technical committee,” Dr Sim told Sinchew Daily today.

For the three stages, he said it will be similar to the National Covid-19 Immunisation Program (PICK) whereby frontliners will be given priority, before the elderly,  high-risk groups, and the rest of the public.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Local Government and Housing, said booster shots are vital to enhance the immunity of those vaccinated against Covid-19 in view of the highly contagious Delta variant. — Dayakdaily
