KUCHING, June 16: Kapit MP has presented RM63,000 in contributions to the residents of the 21-door Rumah (Rh) Ekau in Nanga Semawang, which was severely affected by recent floods.
In a Facebook post, he said that last year, he allocated funds to repair the longhouse’s roof.
Additionally, he said he also received a request to replace the longhouse’s wooden walls with concrete, which will be considered.
“As the Minister of Works and member of Parliament for Kapit, I fully support efforts to help the people as implemented by the National Association of Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants (PUSPANITA).
“This will not only help ease the burden on the people but also foster stronger ties between Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo,” he said.
He made this statement during a Gawai Dayak celebration at the longhouse, in conjunction with the Ministry of Works, PUSPANITA, and strategic partners, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, on Sunday (June 15).
The donation of kitchen items and financial assistance also involved recipients from Rumah Awa and Rumah Serijin.
“These donations represent more than just essential supplies—they reflect the care and sense of kinship within the community, reaching beyond urban centres to touch lives in rural areas as well,” he said. — DayakDaily
