KATIBAS, Oct 10: Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan visited the Rumah Sebom Nanga Masak fire victims yesterday (Oct 9).

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, it was understood that both had extended assistance earlier but wanted to check up on the victims themselves.

When met, Nanta, also the Works Minister, urged villagers to make police reports on the loss of important documents such as identification documents, bank cards, and gun licences so that new ones could be made.

He also urged them to find a new piece of land to rebuild their longhouse, hoping that everyone would cooperate with the relevant agencies so that the rebuilding process would go smoothly.

“With cooperation from the villagers, it’ll be easier for us to help you rebuild your longhouse,” he said to them.

Nanta also hoped the assistance from him, Lidam, and the Welfare Department would lessen the villagers’ burden as they take temporary shelter elsewhere.

He also added RM10,000 for the victims to repair pipes and rebuild their toilet facilities.

On Oct 5, it was reported that a woman in her 90s perished in the fire that destroyed the 33-door longhouse on Oct 4. — DayakDaily
