KUCHING, Sept 15: A total of 64 Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) and associations in Kapit district received assistance amounting to RM704,750, while 94 students who are furthering their studies at institutions of higher learning were each given RM500 incentives, totalling RM47,000.
Works Minister and Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who handed over the contributions at a ceremony in Kapit today, said the programme was meaningful as it not only acknowledged grassroots leadership through JKKKs and associations but also celebrated the achievements of local youths advancing to higher education.
He hoped the assistance would ease family burdens while motivating students to work hard in pursuit of knowledge.
Nanta reminded recipients that all assistance must be managed responsibly, transparently and prudently to ensure it benefits longhouse and village communities.
“JKKKs are encouraged to save part of the allocation instead of spending everything at once, as such savings can be used for future needs.
“With proper reporting and continuous monitoring, we can ensure there is no misuse and that the people truly benefit,” he said in a Facebook post.
He stressed that the financial aid and development plans for Kapit are not tied to election cycles but are part of ongoing efforts to uplift the district.
Highlighting the rapid development in Kapit, Nanta pointed to several major projects including the MARA Professional College, the new SMK Bukit Goram, Kapit Police Station, the Batang Rajang bridge near Nanga Yong, the road project from Nanga Semaram to across Nanga Yong, the redevelopment of the old airport site, and the upcoming Dataran Bujang Berani landmark.
He also urged landowners not to obstruct development projects but to cooperate with the government to facilitate implementation.
“Eventually, all these facilities will benefit us and our future generations. Kapit has transformed tremendously compared to 10 or 20 years ago, and with unity and cooperation, we can bring it to even greater heights,” he added. – DayakDaily
