KUCHING, July 7: Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has called on people in his constituency to continue upholding the ‘Segulai Sejalai’ (together in unity) spirit to ensure continued development for the area.

In a Facebook post, he stated that Kapit, which was once lagging in terms of development, now boasts numerous infrastructure and mega projects that are currently being implemented or planned for the well-being of its people.

The projects in Kapit include the construction of a bridge across the Batang Rajang, not far from Nanga Yong, with a project cost exceeding RM300 million. Additionally, a new 2.5-kilometre Song-Kapit Road is being built, as well as another road to be constructed by the Ulu Rajang Development Agency (URDA).

“Currently, the government is constructing a road from Nanga Tulie directly to Batang Rajang Bridge and once completed, it will serve as a connector to future roads leading to the upstream areas of rivers such as Sungai Melipis, Sungai Menuan, and Sungai Ibau.

“Other upcoming projects include the construction of a MARA Professional College, a new police station, and the Bukit Goram National Secondary School (SMK),” he said.

The government has also approved the construction of a hotel, the Dataran Bujang Berani, and several other development projects that will bring both direct and indirect benefits to the people of Kapit.

He said this during a ‘Leaders with the People’ programme held at Rumah Edison Bugap, Sungai Melekun Balleh, Kapit, recently.

During the programme, Nanta, who is also the federal Works Minister, and Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, announced the construction of a new community hall for Rumah Edison Bugap.

In addition, more than 60 longhouses in Kapit received a total contribution of RM857,000, with each door receiving RM500.

“This assistance not only recognises the presence of longhouse chiefs and Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) but also serves as a token of appreciation for the unwavering support of the people in the Pelagus constituency and Kapit as a whole towards the State and federal governments,” said Nanta.

The programme, which saw the gathering of 124 longhouse chiefs, is evidence of the people’s support for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government in Kapit, he said.

“Additionally, the event, which was also held in conjunction with the launch of the construction of a steel jetty and concrete road and attended by around 1,000 residents including community leaders, further demonstrated the strong collaboration between the people and government agencies and departments—reflecting strong support for the federal government,” he said. — DayakDaily
