Kapit associations, NGOs receive RM496,000 to support community welfare

KUCHING, Jan 17: A total of RM496,000 has been distributed to 30 associations, clubs and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the Kapit Parliamentary Constituency to support local community welfare.

According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Minister of Works of Malaysia and Kapit Member of Parliament Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the Kapit Parliamentary Service Centre remains committed to assisting the local community through targeted donations based on their welfare needs.

He also emphasised that transparency and accountability must always be prioritised to ensure that each fund channelled is fully utilised and benefits the intended recipients.

At the same ceremony, according to Nanta’s Facebook post, a separate RM300,000 contribution from the Other Religious Affairs Unit (UNIFOR) was presented to the Borneo Evangelical Mission Group.

Meanwhile, Kapit District Officer Datuk Jefferson also stressed the importance of being transparent with the donations, urging recipients to be responsible in keeping the communities informed on how the funds are being utilised.

Recipients are also required to maintain records of fund usage for documentation and future reference, in line with public assistance accountability principles.

Also present at the event were Political Secretary to the Minister of Works of Malaysia Ambrose Abong Bugek, Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Watson Awan Jalai, Special Assistant Alvin Runggah, and the various donation recipients.

The event also reflects the Kapit Parliamentary Service Centre’s ongoing efforts to strengthen local community welfare through transparent, targeted, and accountable aid management. – DayakDaily
