KUCHING, July 31: A total of 20,549 or 83.6 per cent of the eligible population in Kanowit District has received their double-dose vaccination as of July 29, says Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

As for those jabbed with at least the first doses, he said the Covid-19 vaccination rate is at 86.2 per cent of the eligible population or 21,203 individuals.

He added this was a collaborative accomplishment between medical teams at the Kanowit Hospital, Kanowit District Community Hall and the mobile team dispatched to cover areas namely Bawan, Nanga Ngungun, Machan, Nanga Dap, Nanga Tada and Nanga Jagau.

With a squad of 35, Abang Johari said the Nanga Jagau Mobile Outreach team, which is a joint-venture initiative between Combat Medic Vaccination Team Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (CMVT ATM) and Sarawak State Health Department (JKNS), has administered over 7,000 doses so far, covering Baram, Limbang and Lawas as well.

The relatively small number of 7,000 doses, he pointed out was due to factors such as the greater difficulties for mobile teams to reach the interior of the State by helicopters and boats compared to urban and suburban areas.

Touching on the satisfactory vaccination speed in Kanowit District, he said some 215 residents in Nanga Jagau were scheduled to receive their second doses today and that will wrap up the vaccination programme in the area.

“I would like to thank the community for their positive responses to Covid-19 vaccination and I urge those who have yet to be vaccinated to come forward to receive their vaccines.

“It is crucial to not only ourselves, but our family members and the community,” he said when visiting the mobile outreach vaccination team at Nanga Jagau, Kanowit today.

Among those present were also Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, Minister for Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Ngemah assemblyman Alexander Vincent, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong and East Field Army Commander Lieutenant General Dato Mardzuki Muhammad. — DayakDaily
