KUCHING, Sept 25: Kanowit’s Air Pollutant Index (API) reading rose to 216 as of 9am today, making it the highest in Sarawak and the only location in the State to record air quality in the “very unhealthy” category.
Meanwhile, Samarahan and Lubok Antu have improved from yesterday’s (Sept 24) readings, moving out of the “very unhealthy” category and into the “unhealthy” range.
Data from the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak showed that several other areas across the State continued to record API readings at either “unhealthy” or “moderate” levels.
Areas classified as “unhealthy” were Kuching (166), Samarahan (165), Serian (178), Sri Aman (163), Tebedu (148), Lubok Antu (180), Belaga (151) and Betong (154).
Areas recording “moderate” air quality included Sarikei (92), Sibu (88), Mukah (82), Kapit (93), Bintulu (91), Samalaju (82), Miri (68), ILP Miri (66), Limbang (63), Lundu (96) and Lawas (64).
Bario, meanwhile, returned to the “good” category, registering an API reading of 37. – DayakDaily
