SIBU, Oct 8: A man who sexually assaulted his underage stepdaughter repeatedly, resulting in her pregnancy, has pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a total of 56 years of imprisonment and 24 strokes of whipping.
On the charges of two counts of sex assault on June 1, 2025 and June 14, 2025 when the victim was 16 years old, Sibu Sessions Court Judge Musyiri Peet had yesterday sentenced the accused Kado Nabau, 31, to 13 years of jail term and five strokes of the cane for each count.
He ordered the punishment to be carried out consecutively, resulting in 26 years of prison time and 10 strokes.
Kado was charged for sexually assaulted his stepdaughter at a longhouse in Kanowit from 6pm to 11.59pm in both occasions.
This was in addition to the sentencing of 30 years of imprisonment and 14 stroke of whipping on Sept 3, 2025 at Sessions Court in Sibu by Judge Stella Augustine for two other counts of rape charges occurred on June 2021 and July 2021 at the same location when the victim was only 12 years old.
All charges were found to be in violation of Section 376B of the Penal Code which was read together with Section 16 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Under Section 376B of the Penal Code, a conviction carries a jail term of not less than 10 years and not more than 30 years, plus caning while under Section 16 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, a conviction carries a jail term of not more than five years and at least two strokes of the cane.
According to the fact sheets, on July 9, 2025, the victim fled the longhouse with her sister.
On August 20, 2025, she was taken to the hospital by her biological father for abdominal pain. The doctor confirmed that she was six months pregnant. She subsequently reported the incident to the police.
At 6.35pm on August 21, 2025, police arrested the victim’s mother and Kado.
Police investigations revealed that Kado had been abusing the victim since 2020 when she was only 11 years old. —DayakDialy
