KUCHING, June 20: The remedial works for the dilapidated section of the Kampung Sungai Tapang road are scheduled to be completed on June 25, 2023.
According to a press release issued today by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, the contractor is currently carrying out remedial works by performing deep patching, which entails removing and replacing the existing pavement before laying geotextile, aggregates, and premix.
“During the visit, YB Wilfred Yap also requested that the Public Works Department (JKR) continue to monitor the situation to ensure that all necessary periodic maintenance works on the village road are carried out on a consistent basis to keep the road in reasonable condition.”
Yap expressed hope that the public would have a long term and bigger perspective of the issue at hand.
“The usage of the village road by the contractor is only temporary for the construction and completion of an access road at the southern side of Kuching International Airport (KIA).”
The total cost of the project, according to the press release, is RM112 million, which was approved by Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, the former Works Minister who is now the Deputy Prime Minister and Plantation and Commodities Minister.
“The scope of work includes the construction of three reinforced concrete (RC) bridges with two lanes each crossing Sungai Kuap, Sungai Stampin, and Sungai Sangkoh, as well as one underpass crossing the southern part of KIA.”
Yap stated that he will continue to fight for more funding for projects aimed at improving road connectivity and reducing traffic congestion in the Kota Sentosa constituency.
“This is because studies have shown that good roads make a crucial contribution to the development and progress of Kota Sentosa by stimulating economic and social development,” he said. — DayakDaily
