KUCHING, April 23: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has presented Kampung Stutong Melayu’s upgraded hall worth RM150,000 to the village’s development and security committee (JKKK) today.

According to a press release issued earlier, Yap witnessed the handover from the project’s contractor Hiz Enterprise to the JKKK who will be responsible for the facility’s management and routine maintenance, at the site.

“The scope of works for the contract sum of RM150,000 is for the construction of new raised flooring above flood level, new sliding doors, a section of new walls, installation of electric fans, general repairs and painting works,” the statement read.h

The villagers of Kampung Stutong Melayu had earlier requested Yap for assistance as the condition of the hall was unsatisfactory, and could not serve the needs of the residents.

“The good condition of village halls are important as they play an important role as a community center for fostering unity amongst the residents of the village through meaningful religious and cultural activities and programmes held in the hall,” Yap reportedly said.

During the simple handing back ceremony, Yap also thanked the Public Works Department (JKR) officers and the contractor for completing the village hall repair project under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) on schedule. — DayakDaily
