JULAU, Sept 1: The construction of a new church in Julau has reached nearly 60 per cent completion, backed by RM1.05 million in funding from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).
In TVS news report, Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin said he fully supported the church’s application for the funds to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
“Since becoming Meluan’s representative, I have also channelled more than RM500,000 through the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) to assist in building the new church.
“I encourage the church to submit additional proposals so that this effort can be carried out smoothly. Once completed, the new church is expected to accommodate up to 1,200 worshippers at a time,” he said at the 87th Anniversary Dinner of Saint Alphonsus Church Julau on Saturday (Aug 29).
At the same event, Rolland announced an additional RM20,000 allocation from the Minor Rural Project (MRP) fund to support church activities and various community programmes.
Saint Alphonsus Church chairman Steven Gadish Nyua expressed gratitude for Duat’s concern and consistent support towards the new church project.
“This dinner also serves as a fundraising effort to meet the church’s needs. I hope the congregation will continue to safeguard harmony and uphold mutual respect in our multicultural society,” he said.
The celebration was further enlivened with a lucky draw and a “golden voice” singing competition, which received overwhelming response from some 700 guests, including Sarawak Premier’s political secretary Brian Fung, Paulus Banyang, and local community leaders. — DayakDaily
