KUCHING, Oct 2: Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng affirms that he is still Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president and the as-of-yet power transition to president-designate Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin will not take place if the general election were to be around the corner.
Sng was responding to a report by a Malaysian news online portal on Saturday (Oct 1) claiming that Zuraida has officially taken up the baton as PBM president following the unanimous support of delegates who attended the party’s inaugural general assembly.
In a social media post earlier today, Sng called the news reporting inaccurate.
“What I said was, it’s my intention for YB Datuk Zuraida to take charge of PBM, and a power transition will take place.
“However, I have not resigned as president of PBM yet, and I will not resign if elections are speculated to be held around the corner. Due process needs to take place in order for a proper handing over to be done.
“Just to be clear, if elections are held before the transition is complete, I will still sign the watika for PBM candidates in GE15 (15th General Election),” he wrote to clarify.
Last June, Zuraida was appointed as PBM’s president-designate after a unanimous agreement by members of the party’s political bureau and supreme council.
With the position, Zuraida was mandated to chart PBM’s development and progress, including negotiations with other parties for new partnerships ahead of GE15. — DayakDaily
