Judge not the tree but the fruit it bears, says former MP

OUCCI president Datuk Mutang Tagal

KUCHING, Jan 26: “Judge not the tree but the fruit that it bears” says former Bukit Mas MP Datuk Mutang Tagal in the defense of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders.

Mutang empathised that even though the opposition has continued to paint some GPS leaders as crooks, he argued that these GPS leaders would not be able to keep on delivering for the people if they were to be as bad as what they have been accused of.

“But look, they are not the demons some people are painting them to be. They are doing a good job. They try to do the best for the state. You test them by the fruit, the fruit that they are bearing. There is no point talking about the tree like this or like that, but the fruit is sour.

“The GPS government has proven itself and has done quite a good job,” Mutang told DayakDaily in an exclusive interview for its ‘Spot On’ programme today.

Mutang who is also the president of the Orang Ulu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OUCCI) thus advised the Orang Ulu community to support GPS in the coming state election.

“So the Orang Ulu, the Dayaks in general and the people in the state have to be practical and just look at the fruit that they (the GPS leaders) have produced, what they have done all this while,” he added.

On a lighter note, Mutang laughed off the suggestion that he stand for election in Ba’Kelalan in the coming state election which is due by this year.

He said as a Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) member, he would have no chance to represent the constituency which has been allocated to the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

“There are plenty of candidates (for Ba’Kelalan for the coming state election). Some are young while there are some older ones as well. The question is, they (GPS top leaders) will have to make the right choice to take back the seat,” he added. — DayakDaily
