KUCHING, Oct 24: Many households are benefiting from the Jualan Rahmah MADANI Bergerak programme at Kenyalang Park Community Hall today, which offers practical relief from the rising cost of living by allowing residents to purchase daily necessities at more affordable prices.

The programme, which runs from 10am to 3pm today, brings essential goods closer to the community, giving residents an opportunity to save on their household expenses.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the initiative was part of the council’s efforts to respond to residents’ concerns about the cost of living and other community issues.

“At the beginning of this year, we visited hawker centres and markets and met with residents to gather feedback and share information about the council’s plans.

“Among the concerns raised were the cost of living, infrastructure and public safety,” he said when speaking to reporters at the programme today.

Wee said more than 500 pieces of feedback gathered from two post-community events are being reviewed to guide MBKS’ future plans.

He added that MBKS was taking action on issues raised by residents, addressing matters within its jurisdiction while seeking sponsors or public contributions for those beyond its authority.

Wee said the council wanted to be more accessible and visible within the community, allowing residents to share their concerns directly rather than having to navigate multiple channels.

He added that the Jualan Rahmah MADANI Bergerak programme was not merely about offering affordable goods but also an opportunity for the council to engage with residents and understand their needs.

MBKS plans to organise more community events and welcomes constructive feedback to help address local concerns.

“We want to hear what they feel is not right and understand how we can address their concerns,” he said.

Wee said the council would continue doing its best to serve residents and hoped they would remain patient as it worked to resolve the issues raised. — DayakDaily
